The skull saga continues: after confirming that it is indeed a boar's skull (note the tusk holes), my boss and the locals all remain perplexed as to how on earth I could have found it, as there are no boars in Izena or on the two neighboring islands of Yanaha and Gushikawa (populated entirely by bunnies and goats might I add!!). 🐇🐐There are certain varieties of wild boar endemic to Vietnam and Indonesia, and if this skull truly came from that far away, this would constitute an incredible find.As of now, he's got a home on my shelf and shall be joined by the other relics I have yet to unearth on these sandy shores...#ourtangledbonesinjapan #izena #izenaisland #伊是名島 #伊是名 #おきなわ #沖縄本島 #okinawa #animalskull #skull

It has now been a month since I left Toronto and began my adventure in Japan, and today, as I watched a flock of cranes fly over this rice paddy into the sunset, I was hit with the realization of where I am. Like, I am really and truly here. It's still unbelievable. And while Okinawa was probably the last place I wanted to be posted (truthfully I didn't even know it existed until I found out it was where I'd be going), as another JET had told me "It was the Japan I needed, not the one I wanted."And he's right. This place is paradise. I awake each morning to a crimson sunrise spilling over a calm sea and into my window. I bike to school surrounded by the sound of children laughing and followed by the scent of freshly baked bread wafting from my neighbour's storefront. After school I wander through fields of sugarcane and scavenge the empty beaches for washed up treasures. At night I busy myself reading the newspaper, folding origami and studying Japanese, accompanied by a steaming hot cup of the best 玄米茶 (toasted rice tea) I've ever tasted. The living is easy, and the days seem slow, and yet a month has passed already. And I am happy to say that I look forward to many more. I have been recontracted until August 2017 and if all continues as it has been thus far, I may just decide to stay for the full five years. 最近店のお金数えるのやったんだけど数字にほんと弱いから頭パンクしそう500円が10枚でいくらとか 1万円0なんこだっけとか、もうやばい。1番苦手なの50円半端だから10枚でいくらとかいわれても困る！はー大変この間4600くらいを460と間違えてお客さんに笑われた#お客さんがいい人でよかった#たまにきれる人いる笑#まだキレられたことないけど笑#なつかしきふるさと#この道お気に入り#マエダロード#勝手に笑#そして明日からひな祭りのケーキがでる#楽しみ#伊是名島#ふるさと#sky
